I couldn't find a better spot for additional uses of cell phones in classes. So here goes.

1. I've used the cell phone camera feature to give students extra credit if they can shoot a self shot of themselves with the business district of their hometown in the background. Sure everyone knows how to take a picture, but do who really knows how to get that picture into a Word document?
2. Game shows, game shows, games shows. Any game show ever seen on the Gameshow network can now be played in the classroom. Especially if you toss in a PowerPoint created like jeopardy, Deal or No Deal, Millionaire, etc.
3. Give a student a phonebook or whitepages.com and they now can call real businesses with questions about economics, finance, etc. One student called her grampa because she needed to figure out who the major of Dundee was.
4. Voice messages and audio recordings area great way to record a 30 second radio advertisement used in my Marketing classes.
5. Text messaging entire classes or extra curricular groups about changes in schedules is instantaneous. No need for phone trees any more. Its all done within a matter of a minute.
6. The educational process becomes 24 hours. I've received Email and text messages from students at all hours as they hand in assignments or have questions. Good thing I turn it off at night.
Thats all for now. I'll start thinking of some creative ways and get back to you.
